Life Coaching - for personal & professional development
"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
Mary Oliver
So what is life coaching?
When we ask people this question, they respond in a variety of ways, ranging from....
- 'counselling or therapy'
- 'for people with serious issues'
- 'sorting out people's problems'
- 'goal setting'
- 'helping people get the most of out life'
It's easy to see why people might be put off contacting a life coach when there is so much confusion (and quite understandably) as to what coaching is and what it can provide.
Coaching will undoubtedly continue to be seen as a mixture of all the above descriptors - but one thing is for sure, if you get yourself a good coach, regardless of where you class yourself in terms of success and happiness, you will have the opportunity to learn something about yourself, see things in a different light, feel better about yourself, grow personally, take decisive actions and feel a huge sense of achievement.
- Coaching is about creating a relationship in which the coach is 100% committed to helping you live more of the life you want - personally and professionally.
- Coaches are highly skilled at asking questions, giving space for thinking time, and listening.
- The coach believes that you are already great as you are, and they focus on the present and what's possible for you in your future.
- Coaches are empathetic, yet are there to constructively explore and develop your thinking to facilitate you coming up with your own solutions.
- Coaching helps you get a clearer perspective.
- A coaching partnership is one where the coach creates an environment for you to express yourself safely. This relationship enables you to progress to where you want to be, and support you along the way.
- Coaching can be lots of fun; it can be hard work too. Let's not forget - anything worth having involves effort.
What do people typically come to a life coach for?
Basically anything and everything! Improvement in the quality and enjoyment of their lives in the areas of: work, home, career, health, fitness, work-life balance, personal development, gaining clarity, vitality, sense of achievement, resilience, money, stress, relationships, fun, to name but a few.
How does it work?
Coaching starts with a real desire from you to want to positively move forward in your personal and/or professional life in some way.
If you really want to be living a more fulfilled life, then it's going to mean you will need to do things a little bit differently than you have been. It will therefore involve you taking actions, or consciously choosing not to. Your coach is there to support and encourage you along the way.
Coaching takes place on the telephone or face-to-face, and each session with us typically lasts one hour.
A free initial discussion will need to take place to ensure you are clear on how the sessions and partnership will work, your desired approach, and any questions you may have.
